Pass the Apple

June 15th, 2011 by admin

This game is similar to the game Hot Potato.  Have the children sit in a circle.  Use 3 apples to pass around.  Sing the song I’ve God the Love of Jesus (fruit version).  When the song stops whoever has the apples shouts out “God is Love!”

Then show the children a rotten apple, “Who wants to eat this?” – offer it if anyone says yes :P  Then show a good fruit.  Have the children practice saying, “I want the good fruit!”  Play Pass the Apple again and the children who have the apple at the end of the song say, “I want the good fruit!”

In the Bible Jesus said, “By their fruit you will know them.”  So if you make good fruit you belong to Jesus.  When Jesus was talking about good fruit and bad fruit he wasn’t talking about apples he was talking about how you act.  What do you think he meant by good fruit?  How would you act if you were making the good fruit? (Love!)

“Love is the good fruit!”  Have children practice shouting this.  Play Pass the Apple again and the children who have the apple at the end of the song say, “Love is the good fruit!”

We can’t make the good fruit without God’s love.  How do we get God’s love inside of us so that we will make the good fruit?  (Ask Jesus into your heart!)

Give an opportunity either now or later for children to ask Jesus into their heart if they have never done so and they would like to do that.

God is Love

Give each of the children a piece of paper and maker/crayon.  It can be nice to use pink or red paper for this activity.  Have them draw a heart and write the words, “God is Love”. A helper may be needed to do the writing.  Children can cut out hearts and decorate them if there is time and enough scissors.  Heart stickers may also be used for decoration.

When the children are finished, gather them in a circle.  Have the children take turns around the circle.  They should show their paper and say, “God is love!”

The ” God is Love” activity is ideal for children who are three to six years of age.  It will also work for mixed age groups.  For a mixed age group have the older children assist the younger ones.

Apple, Apple, Love! Preschool Game

June 15th, 2011 by admin

Play “Duck, Duck, Goose!” using the words “apple, apple, love”.  To play this game have the children sit in a circle.  Then one person is ‘it’.  They walk on the outside of the circle and tap each person’s head and say, “apple, apple, apple, apple…love!”   They may say apple as many times as they like.  When the person who’s ‘it’ says “love” both children have to run around the circle in opposite directions.  The goal is to try to get to the empty spot in the circle first and sit down.  The person who’s the slowest is ‘it’.

Use this game along with a lesson on the fruit of the spirit.  The fruit we produce is not actually apples but it is love for others.  This love comes out of our heart if we have Jesus in our heart.

Find The Good Fruit

June 15th, 2011 by admin

Before the children arrive, hide apples around the area.  Hide enough for each child to find one.  Alternately, you can get a helper to hide them while you do a different activity with the children.

Read from the Bible:

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.

We want to make good fruit for Jesus!

Tell them the children, “I have hidden some good fruit around the room.  Everyone find 1 fruit and then bring it back here!”

When the children return pass out heart stickers and have them stick it on to their apple to remind them that, “The fruit of the spirit is love.  When we have God’s love in our heart we need to love others.  We need to make the good fruit in our lives!”

I’ve Got the Love of Jesus Song Lyrics (fruit version)

June 15th, 2011 by admin

I’ve got the love of Jesus, love of Jesus, down in my heart.
(Where?)
Down in my heart.
(Where?)
Down in my heart.
I’ve got the love of Jesus, love of Jesus, down in my heart.
(Where?)
Down in my heart to stay.

And I’ll make the good fruit.
I’ll make the good fruit.
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart.
I’ll make the love fruit.
I’ll make the love fruit.
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart.

How I Can Be Helpful

April 9th, 2010 by admin

This printable activity is great to use after telling the children the story about baby Moses.  Miriam helped her little brother Moses by watching out for him.  Ask the kids if they remember what Miriam did for little Moses.

Talk with the children about what things they could do to help others.  Any aged child can be helpful.  After talking about it with them, have the children each choose one thing to draw.  They should draw a picture of them helping.  Here’s a printable activity sheet where children can draw themselves helping.

Read Your Bible/Pray Every Day Song

January 15th, 2010 by admin

Here’s an old but very true song that I learned as a child.

Read Your Bible/Pray Every Day Song

Read your Bible/pray every day
Pray every day.  Pray every day.
Read your Bible/pray every day
And you’ll grow, grow, grow!

And you’ll grow, grow, grow!
And you’ll grow, grow, grow!
Read your Bible/pray every day
Aand you’ll grow, grow, grow!

Don’t read your Bible/forget to pray.
Forget to pray.  Forget to pray.
Don’t read your Bible/forget to pray.
And you’ll shrink, shrink, shrink!

And you’ll shrink, shrink, shrink!
And you’ll shrink, shrink, shrink!
Don’t read your Bible/forget to pray
And you’ll shrink, shrink, shrink!

I Am Thankful Activity

December 2nd, 2009 by admin

Age Group: This thankfulness activity is suitable for children four years of age and older.

Materials Needed:

  • A blank paper for each child.

This is a good activity to do at Thanksgiving.  Brainstorm with students things they are thankful for, things they can thank God for.  Give students a blank piece of paper.  Have students write, I am thankful at the top of the page.   Then let students draw things for which they are thankful.
